Since “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” is burning up the box office, I figure I’d share some photos from their San Diego Comic-Con panel. The panel was very entertaining and it’s always a weird experience to see your favorite stars in person. I will say, I was probably most excited about seeing Lenny Kravitz. I remember a young girl telling Jennifer that she really enjoyed “Silver Linings Playbook” and J.Law was shocked the girl was allowed to see it. It was pretty adorable, as expected.
Yesterday I headed out with some friends to see the latest Hunger Games movie, Catching Fire. I loved the books and enjoyed the first movie and was excited to see how this would come together. I was interested to see how the new cast mixed with the old and I wasn’t disappointed.
I’ll admit, when Sam Claflin was cast as Finnick, I wasn’t feeling it. Like most, I just didn’t feel that he had the “look” of Finnick. I honestly didn’t have anyone in mind for the role though either. I’m happy to take back what he said. His acting really stood out and I can’t wait to see what he does with the character in the next two movies. You can tell his hiding something, hurting from something. Sam did a terrific job of bringing that across. Another new comer was Jena Malone who plays Johanna Mason. If you’re not sure which Tribute she is, she’s the one who strips down in the elevator in front of Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch. I have to say, that scene was my favorite and a bit hilarious. The reactions from the other characters were priceless in their own ways. The new cast members did an amazing job in the arena scenes as well. Jeffrey Wright was an amazing BeeTee and the character was just how I had hoped. While Katniss and Peeta are the main characters, their stories can’t be told without the help and support of the other Tributes and the new additions were perfect. Well done casting department!
The funny thing is, even though I’ve read the books, I was still surprised and hit by emotions while watching the movie. The last scene shared by Katniss and Cinna broke my heart and Jennifer Lawrence nailed it. She nailed it hard. I can’t imagine having to see that and then go and fight for my life 10 seconds later. Another scene that pulled at my heart was one shared between Peeta and Katniss during the Jabberjay attack. Just thinking about it gets me a little teary eyed. I wanted him to be able to hold her and the fact that he couldn’t, ugh! It’s just funny how even though I know which characters make it and which don’t, I still find myself nervous and worried for them.
As soon as the movie ended, I wanted to be able to watch the next one. I can’t wait to see how the next two movies are handled. I honestly feel that Josh Hutcherson will be a bit of a breakout star in the next two, just knowing what his character goes through. I’m excited to see what he does with Brainwashed!Peeta! I can’t handle it! I’m already freaking out!
Did you see the movie over the weekend? What did you think?
I feel like I’m super late to the “Hunger Games” party that’s been going on. To be honest, I thought the book was about vampires for some reason? No, I didn’t confuse it with that other book series. I have no idea why I thought this. Maybe I over heard someone wrong? I really have no clue. I’m super glad I finally came around and picked up the series.
The books are such an easy read. I wouldn’t even say it took me days to read them, more like hours. Maybe if you combined the hours it would add up to a day but I was seriously hooked. I just kept reading. I couldn’t stop! As soon as I finished one book, I quickly ordered the next in line on my Kindle. Oh Kindle, how I love you. I am no longer at the mercy of a cliff hanger, for I have the power of having a book instantly!
Now that I’ve read the books, I’m looking forward to the movie. I probably would’ve seen it sooner or later, but now I need to see it. I need to see The Capitol come to life on screen. I need to see what these amazing Hunger Games outfits look like! Plus I need to see Baby Thor, I mean Liam Hemsworth, in action. And Woody Harrelson playing a drunk? Sign me up!
I seriously just lost my train of thought. The kid who played the son in “RV” is playing Peeta, and he got hot? When did this happen? I think my eyes bugged out while reading IMDB.
Ok, the train is back on the tracks. If you haven’t picked these books up, do it. If you’re looking for something a little different, and easy to read then these books are for you. They won’t go down in history as the greatest books ever written but who cares? Reading should be about having fun, escaping, learning and taking a break from the world.
