So That Happened

February 11, 2013 2 Comments

I was checking out my stats last week and I noticed I had this sudden jump in viewers. I mean, a serious jump. It looked like most of them were coming from Tumblr but that was all it said at the time. It wasn’t attached to a tag or anything like that. I went to investigate! I actually had a small idea of where they hits were coming from because they were all going to my post about my latest tattoo, but I wanted to be sure. After dealing with websites not loading properly I was able to solve the case!

It turned out that Matt Fraction (the writer of Hawkeye) had posted a link to my post about my Hawkeye tattoo! I was floored! Look!

ohsnapson

How exciting is that?! Over 100 people came to my website and read that post because of his little mention. Of course I have no idea how many will stick around but if you’re here because of that mention, stay! I promise I don’t bite! If you remember back to my original post about my tattoo, you’d see that David Aja (the Hawkeye artist) approved of my tattoo as well. He even mentioned it again a few weeks later. It’s like everything has come full circle!

Now I just need my letter and tattoo to show up in the fan pages of Hawkeye and I’ll be able to die happy.

Matt Fraction Is Awesome.

November 29, 2012 Leave a Comment

If you still haven’t picked up the new Hawkeye series, you now have a good excuse to start. Matt Fraction will be donating everything he makes from Hawkeye #7 to Hurricane Sandy Relief.

So we blew up our schedule on HAWKGUY just a little bit to work a special issue into our schedule — #7, January, is now a book told in halves, each about Hurricane Sandy and our intrepid Hawkguys (or Lady Hawkguy if you prefer) dealing with Things. Clint finds himself helping an evacuation in Far Rockaway; Kate is in a fancy dress stuck in a hotel on the Atlantic City boardwalk.

STEVE LIEBER handles the Clint half; JESSE HAMM, the Kate half. They are geniuses and are perfect partners for this endeavor.

Here’s the thing: at Marvel I am paid performance-based incentives. The better my books sell, the nicer the check is, when the nice check comes.

I’m donating all of my incentives from the sales of HAWKGUY #7 to the Red Cross.

The better the sales on the issue, the bigger the check I write.

Look, you can be awesome too! Just buy a copy (or 10) and you’ll be helping out victims of Hurricane Sandy. Look, if you aren’t into comic books or “super heroes” this is probably the book for you. Why? Because there are no powers. It’s a dude with a bow and mad skills. That’s it. He doesn’t fly. He doesn’t have lasers shooting out from his eyes. He doesn’t magically heal because of special blood or whatever. He just runs around town trying to help normal people. He’s not up against Loki or Red Skull. He’s just trying to help out his neighbors and do good. He’s just trying to make up for past mistakes. You can honestly pick up any issue and not be confused. As of right now each book is its own story. See, no excuses!

So, get up from your computer and make your way to your local comic shop. When you get there give them this information NOV120725 and you’re set.

Just Say No To Labels

November 13, 2012 2 Comments

I’m not sure how many of you who read my blog consider yourself “nerds” or into comics that much but lately there’s been this huge uproar over who’s a “real nerd” and how women can’t be and how cosplayers are just posers and what not. It’s frustrating and annoying, to put it lightly.

I’m new to comics. I have no problem admitting that. What’s sad is that it took me awhile to work up the nerve to go to a comic shop. How sad is that? How is a woman supposed to feel when all she reads and sees are articles saying who’s a “real” nerd or geek? What does that even mean? I finally sucked it up and went to a local shop in order to pick up Hawkeye #1 by Matt Fraction and David Aja. Why? Because after the “Avengers” I needed everything Hawkeye. I had heard about this comic, saw a few preview pages and needed it. Plus being new, I thought it was a good place to start.

And guess what? I wasn’t judged. I wasn’t bothered. I wasn’t treated like a 2nd class citizen because I was a woman. They answered any questions I had and I was in and out. It’s now my regular shop and whenever a new Hawkeye hits the stands, I stop on my way home from work. You want to know something funny? I was actually judged and treated like crap on my way into the shop by some assholes who drove by and started to yell lovely things at me.

The thing is, I’m not “just” a nerd. I’m a person. I have many interests. I love reading. I love attending Comic Conventions. I love taking pictures. I love action/horror movies. I love Marvel. I love animals. I love to travel. I love the beach. I love my family. I love sports. Whoa! A “nerd” who enjoys sports?! See, a nerd can be anyone who has any range of hobbies. It’s just one part of who I am, it’s not all that I am.

I know this post seems all over the place but I’m going to close it with a Tweet that Matt Fraction sent to me when I tweeted about my thoughts on this whole thing:

@sdccnerdsattack nobody gets to judge you for what you like or for how long you’ve liked it. you’re the best. they’re the worst. thank you.

Happy Memorial Day!

May 28, 2012 1 Comment

I hope everyone is having a nice Memorial Day! What’s everyone up to? I’m actually not doing anything today but yesterday a friend had a cookout (she does every year) and it was a blast! There were way too many teens there for my liking (she has a teenage son) but I still had a good time. It’s nice catching up with friends, eating yummy food and getting some sun!

Chillin Like A Villain

I’m actually dog sitting for a coworker at the moment and will be until next Monday. It’s nice but boring at the same time. I do get to catch up on my true crime shows since I don’t get I.D. at home plus Bio has some interesting crime shows as well. When I’m not watching those channels though I’m busy watching “The Unusuals” on my computer. Oh, don’t know that show? It starred Jeremy Renner and airred back in 2009 on ABC. It’s a cop show but it’s a little quirky and has an interesting cast of characters. It only lasted 10 episodes which is kind of sad but it’s available on DVD if anyone is interested. I think it’s on Hulu as well if you want to check it out! If you’re a Renner fan I highly recommend it. He does a great job, is the lead and is shirtless in almost every episode.

I finally found a dress for the wedding I’ll be attending in June. Well, it’s more like a wedding reception since they “eloped.” I’m looking forward to it! Here’s the dress. Isn’t it cute? I think I’ll pack it for Hawaii too just in case we do a nice dinner or something. Plus I found out a cousin is getting married in September and depending on the weather, I might wear it then too. I just need to find shoes to go with it. The reception is outside which means either wedges or cute flats. I might even have a pair already but hey, any excuse to buy new shoes.

Hmm, what else? Oh! I bought Hawkeye & Mockingbird/Black Widow: Widowmaker and Avengers: Hawkeye Solo. I enjoyed them both. I think Hawkeye is replacing Captain America as my favorite. I love how snarky he is! Who doesn’t love a smart ass? When I get paid Friday I plan on buying a few more comics. I bought Avengers: The Art of Marvel’s The Avengers as well from my local Barnes & Nobles. If you like seeing how they come up with ideas for movies, this is a great book. It shows the different costume ideas they had, the different versions of villains and how it all came together.

That’s enough randomness for one post. Enjoy the rest of your day!
