I know a lot of us in the blogging world use BlogLovin as a way to keep up with our favorite blogs. It’s basically a fancy RSS reader. At first, it was great! Everything was in one place, they had some recommended/suggested blogs, and all was well. It did the job ya know? But then more ads starting popping up. It was almost to the point where I felt my feed had more sponsored posts (mainly beauty/fashion) than actual posts from the people I wanted to keep up with. I started noticing that only a handful of new posts would even show in my feed, even if a ton of blogs had new posts. It was just becoming a bit of a mess honestly. I never really felt that they had the right category for my blog either, or the blogs of my friends. It would have been great if they offered a “Nerd/Geek” category. Instead I was stuck with picking “LifeStyle” which isn’t how I see my blog at all.
So, I’ve made the switch back to a more basic and old school RSS reader. I signed up with Feedly and was able to export all the blogs I follow from BL and import them there, which was beyond helpful. I follow a ton of blogs and if I had to add each one by hand? It would take forever. I took the time to go through my feed as well and delete any blogs that haven’t updated lately. I was still following bloggers who hadn’t posted since 2014! I’ll probably do a bit more thinning out and delete any blogs that I just don’t feel connected with anymore as well. You gotta do what you gotta do.
How do you guys feel about BlogLovin? Have any of you made the switch to a more basic RSS reader?
