Many moons ago, I was a Nsync fangirl. Honestly, I still consider myself a fangirl! If they announced a tour or concert today, I’d be all over it. I was glued to my screen when they “reunited” during the MTV Awards. That was the best 15 seconds of my life. Now, if you were a fan back in the day, you were aware of something called Challenge for the Children. The guys would put on a basketball game and other activities during a weekend to raise money for charity. It was a win/win for everyone! I was lucky enough to attend three of these events down in Florida. The first time was in Orlando and the last two were both in Miami. It was honestly a great time! I would go down with my friends (including the BFF Manda) and we’d make fools of ourselves and have a blast.
I want to say it was the last CFTC that I attended, that we were able to attend all the parties that they had during the weekend. In previous years I wasn’t 21 which means some of the events I couldn’t get into. The parties were a chance to meet other fans and mingle with the other celebrities that were taking part in the basketball game. Now, at this one party they had a silent auction set up. If you know me, you know I have a weakness for an auction, especially if it means a bidding war. I don’t like to lose, ever. They had various items up including a vacation to Atlantis, autographed memorabilia and the holy grail of Nsync items. They had a pair of jeans that J.C. wore when the group was slimed during the Kid’s Choice Awards one year.
They were framed, still had slime stains (man, that sounds gross), and were signed by the entire group. I had to have them. The need to own these pants was a level I don’t think I’ve ever reached again. I can’t remember what the starting bid was, but I remember how much they went for. The best part though was Manda enabling this entire situation. There was one other person going after this holy grail and we used our skills to figure out that she was close to reaching her credit limit on her card. Thankfully, my card was brand spanking new and had all the room in the world for a poor life decision. While waiting for the auction to end, I even blew off “Hyde” from That 70’s Show at the bar. That’s how focused I was on winning this fucking auction. Of course I ended up winning and if I remember correctly, they were the highest item. I think they went for more than the vacation to Atlantis. And I will now share with you how much I ended up paying for these pants….
I’ll wait until you pick yourself up off the floor. Are you good? You sure? The best part was the fact that instead of letting them just ship them home, I wanted to keep them with me. That means we walked through the hotel lobby carrying this huge frame that contained J.C. Chasez worn jeans. And I’m not kidding when I say these things were huge. I’m a small person too which means I’m sure this looked even more hilarious to those watching us. When my parents asked about them, I told them I bought a raffle ticket for $50 and that I had won. Of course we had to make a run to Target (in a storm) to get bubble wrap to wrap them up for the flight home. That was an adventure as well because everything was an adventure on those trips!
I know you’re all wanting to see photos but I honestly have no idea where they are! I don’t own the jeans anymore (I sold them to someone) but I did actually try them on once. It was hilarious and I promise if I come across any photos, I’ll share them! Honestly I’d love to do a giant Nsync fangirl post one of these days.
