If you know me, you know I love Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier. When I saw that there was going to be an armless Funko Pop, I had to have it. Then when I saw it was a Target exclusive, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. I kept checking all my local stores (4 of ’em), and nothing. Then I got a message from my friend Chris who spotted one! He picked it up for me because he’s an awesome friend! I love this Pop! I know there are mixed opinions on Funko variants and they do get a little out of hand, but I think this one is kinda unique and awesome. Now if we can get Funko to put out a Civilian!Bucky, I’d be really happy!
I’ve been looking for this guy for awhile now and finally found him at my local comic shop! I don’t know why he was hard to find but now I have him and I can end my search. Kinda like Steve, eh? Oh I crack myself up! I really love the little details on this guy, like his gun and how they didn’t ignore the backside of the Pop. His little straps go all the way around. Personally I think his arm has better detail this time around as well. I think it’s great too that even without a mouth, they’re still able to give these guys emotions/attitude just by using their eyebrows. I’m super happy with him and hope they do a Civilian Version as well! It’s nice to see that Bucky managed to get some color as well while on the run.

I already own one Winter Solider figure but that’s not going to stop me from picking up this one. I need to own them all. And if you missed out on the first one I feel bad for you. It’s an outstanding figure with all kinds of little accessories and it just looks bad ass and now I’m rambling. The new figure doesn’t come with as much but that’s not a surprise to me. While the character name is the same, it’s not the same character if that makes sense. He’s not loaded up with HYDRA gear anymore which means less toys to play with. I still think it’s a pretty kick ass item to add to your collection though. The head sculpt is a little different from the first which is nice to see. Sometimes Hot Toys has a habit of just reusing them over and over again (See: Black Widow).
The movie-accurate collectible is specially crafted based on the image of Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier in the movie. It features a newly sculpted head sculpt, new chrome colored left arm with red star emblem, finely tailored costume, a machine gun, and a specially designed Captain America: Civil War themed figure stand.
I’m really excited to see the new arm. I think it’s probably the one issue most people had with the first one. The arm just didn’t stand out the way it should. Now, while I love this figure and the look of it, I really hope they give us a Red Shirt/Civilian Bucky Barnes. I just love the way he looks in it and honestly, I have a feeling he’ll be wearing that more than his Winter Soldier outfit. If you want the Winter Soldier to grace your shelf, it’ll cost $219.99 with a NRD of $22.00.
I feel like I ordered my Winter Soldier Hot Toys years ago but he finally arrived! He actually arrived earlier than planned which was great. When I received my email asking if I wanted to pay sooner than expected (December was when my 1st payment was due) I said yes! Luckily I could do this since I saved over $100 when I ordered him, otherwise I’d still be waiting.
As always, the box he arrived in was beautiful. Hot Toys really knows how to package their figures!
Just look at this! It’s glorious! The figure itself is just as beautiful. The detail is amazing, from the weapons to the clothing. Winter Soldier comes with two heads, numerous hands, and all sorts of little weapons, including his knives. They all have their own holsters and thanks to the instructions, you’ll easily know where everything goes. As far as the likeness goes, I think it’s pretty dead on. It’s all about the eyes which they’ve captured very well. Of course the metal arm is fantastic. I know some people complained that it didn’t look more chrome or that it wasn’t dicast but that would have thrown off the entire figure. It needs to be able to stand and have balance! All in all, I am in love with this figure. I don’t own many Hot Toys but this is one of my favorites by far. It’s well worth the money in my opinion.
Now onto the photos! I took these at work the day before Thanksgiving since the place was a ghost town. I used the fancy gallery option which means just click the image to see the full size and browse!
It’s been a long and crazy week! I wanted to write something up sooner but my lack of sleep made it hard to function, let alone write anything that made sense. But I’ve caught up on some Z’s as much as I can and I’m ready to talk about Cleveland!
Monday night I headed off to Cleveland to meet up with Katy and a few other friends for the Captain America: Winter Soldier premiere! When the news was first announced it sounded like something huge. I figured it’s cheaper than trying to get to L.A. but by the end, it was really just a screening. The Russo Brothers did appear though! But first, we did some sightseeing. That means we went to the mall where “Avengers” and “Winter Soldier” filmed and did some fangirling. We might have even rode the escalators one too many times. Did I mention we were in costume as well? That means we had people stopping us for photos which was pretty hilarious and awesome. Everyone that approached us was super nice though. We wanted to check out more of the area but we headed back to the hotel to freshen up a bit before heading to the theater.
Of course that wouldn’t have been possible without Travis. He had arrived in town earlier on Monday than the rest of us and managed to get us two tickets to the screening! I was sitting in the airport when he told me! I almost started crying. He drove 8 hours to Cleveland to attend this and was introduced to the Russo Brothers at a raffle who then gave him tickets. How amazing is that? The directors of the movie gave Travis tickets! When does something like that ever happen? You can read all about it over on his blog.
Even though the screening wasn’t until the evening we arrived at the theater early to take a few photos in costume. After that we all got into line. We chatted with a few news crews and even ended up being on the news and on the Facebook page of one of the channels! You can view the video here.
Finally we were allowed to enter, get our wristbands, and head to our assigned theaters. I think they used four or five screens for this. Once inside though I think we waited maybe an hour (it felt like an hour anyway) before everything got started. A few important Cleveland folk gave some speeches and then Russo Brothers said a little something before the best Marvel movie ever played. And I mean that. As someone who enjoys all the MCU films, “Captain America: Winter Soldier” is the best. There’s just no arguing. I’ll probably do a proper review sometime next week. I’d like to give people a chance to see it first. I’ve seen it three times though (with 2 more viewings on the books for Saturday) and it’s still amazing. I’m still noticing little things I didn’t see or hear before.
Also, I might be doing a little Winter Soldier giveaway in the next week or so. I need to get myself back in order after this week. My flight home was at 6AM Wednesday which means I was up at 3:30AM and when I landed back home, I went right to work. Yes, I know. I hate myself.
And again, I can’t thank Travis enough for those tickets! He didn’t need to worry about us but he did and I appreciate that. Just shows there are still awesome people in the world!
