If you follow on Twitter, you know that last week I was taking part in Spooktacular by Sideshow. They’re the company I buy all my Hot Toys from! If you aren’t familiar, I wrote up a post about them here. Spooktacular is an event they do the week leading up to Halloween where they giveaway figures, reward points, and offer all kinds of contests and discounts! I took part last year for the first time and boy, this year was amazing!
I managed to win my way into a “secret” Spook event that only included about 130 people. I’d put that number even lower because I’m pretty sure not everyone participated. It was ran by Susan who’s the social media guru for Sideshow. Along with myself, a few members of Team Pulp made it into the event as well. It was awesome! We all ended up winning a figure! I ended up winning a CA:WS Black Widow Hot Toy! It wasn’t easy though. I had to make a sign asking if people have accepted Susan as their Sideshow savior, and take that sign on a #2Girls1Hike (which I’ll explain later) hiking trip!
Don’t you just love the hearts? I put her name in purple since she’s a Ravens fan. Just another reason Susan is awesome. Deidre had to do her own version of a Star-Lord dance off and ending up walking (dancing?) away with a Star-Lord Hot Toy. The winning didn’t stop there though. Katy ended up winning a Marvel Captain America – Star Spangled Man Hot Toy AND a Chitauri Footsoldier! Then Brittany walked away with a Thor figure! I told you that we made a sweep of things! That’s not even counting all the reward points we ended up snagging. You can save reward points and use them on a purchase to knock the price down. I think I ended up with about $45 in “free” reward points. I only missed two codes which is pretty good seeing how they came at pretty random times.
The best part was meeting all kinds of new people though. Everyone was really nice when you won which was great. It felt like a little community in our “secret” group. Everyone was really supportive of each other. Some of the challenges people finished in order to win something were hysterical, and really added a laugh to some slow days last week. People were quick to alert the group to new codes or contests and it was just, really kick ass. Susan was very generous and just an all around nice person during all of it. I hope I get the chance to thank her in person one day! Chicky (who works for SS too) offered such a great twists on Twitter contests. It was fun to try and figure out the riddles and quotes she posted. She would randomly give out reward points too! It was like Sideshow Christmas in October!
I’m sad Spook has come to an end, but now I look forward to getting my Black Widow in the mail and making her fight Winter Soldier when he arrives! Did any of you take part in Spook? Did you win or pull the trigger on any purchases?
