I wanted to bring a little extra something to my Scarlet Witch cosplay and in order to do that, I turned to contacts! I settled on purchasing from Pinky Paradise. I know a lot of people use them and figured they’d be a good place to start. The prices they offer are very reasonable. I paid just $25.90 for the contacts (Super Pinky Bright Red) and I paid $15 for quicker shipping. I needed them quickly and didn’t want to risk it. They arrived in plenty of time for the convention!
When they arrived, each contact was in its own glass container that was sealed. I received a lens case as well! I thought I took a photo of them when they arrived but I guess I didn’t. But the glass containers were very small, just enough room for the contact to float around. I purchased some contact solution from Target and let them soak like suggested. I did a test run and everything was fine but I wanted to make sure I wore them for a few hours before writing this review.
The day of my cosplay arrived and after what felt like hours trying to get them in, I was good to go! I haven’t worn contacts in years and it’s something you should really practice. As always, make sure to soak them and check for any issues before putting them in! If I had to guess, I’d say I wore them for around 4-5 hours. I didn’t have any issues with vision and they were comfortable for the most part. I did use some eye drops to help with dryness but that’s probably something that will go away the more I wear them. When it was time to take them out, I just pinched them and that was that! It’s always easier to take them out than put them in.
As far as the color goes, I was really pleased with it! I have blue eyes, which I’m sure helped them appear a bit more red or brighter. The one thing I really liked about the PP website is the fact they have “real life” photos of people wearing the contacts. It’s a great way to try and judge if the color is what you’re looking for, and how your natural eye color might affect the results. At one point, I thought I had found the right red until I looked at some of the photos. It turned out to be much too light. I kept looking and then finally found the color I ended up purchasing.
I would definitely wear them again and use Pinky Paradise in the future if I needed contacts. I’m glad I decided to go with contacts as part of my costume because I feel it really added to the character. It was pretty cool to have people look at me a little weird and then ask if my eyes were really red!
Have you worn contacts as part of a costume? Who do you use?
I had someone ask if you need a prescription. You do NOT. I wear glasses in my every day life but went prescription free for the contacts. I believe you can order them with your prescription if you want to though.
