If you follow me on social media, you’re probably aware that I attend a fair number of early movie screenings. I figured I’d write up a post to help you see movies early as well! Plus it helps you save money. I mean, if it’s free it’s me!
I check this website on a pretty regular basis. You just search for your city and see what’s happening. Basically what they do is find contests, links, and other outlets that are hosting screenings/giving away tickets. It saves you the time of having to hop around from site to site. Plus if you come across a site that offers passes on the regular, you can just follow/watch them directly.
If you have a favorite station, pay attention to those commercials! It seems that most of the time the contest are text/call to win. If they have social media (and most do), they might have ways to win there as well. You can check their websites for a list of their contests.
Studio Social Media Accounts
If you follow movie studios, or accounts for the movies themselves, you might get lucky and find links for a screening near you. Just remember that thousands of people (if not more) follow them as well! Don’t wait too long to click those links. Marvel has used social media in the past and those passes were gone in a blink of an eye.
Movie Theater Loyalty Programs
I’m a member of AMC Stubs and I’ve attended a fair amount of screenings thanks to them! I know Regal has a program as well and offers screening passes too. Some of the programs cost money but personally AMC has saved me a ton of money between the normal benefits and screenings.
Local Comic Book Shop
Granted, most of them will focus on comic book movies or science fiction/fantasy but if that’s your thing it’s a great way to see movies early! I was able to see “Ant-Man” early thanks to winning passes from my LCS. Most will offer contest via their social media. Just be sure to actually shop there! IMO, it would be kinda rude to just use them for passes.
There ya go! The key is to be quick. Like I mentioned above, thousands of people are wanting the same passes you want. If you see a link pop up for something you want to see, don’t wait! I have noticed that around here most screenings are Tuesday or Wednesday nights. Just be sure you can actually make the screening before requesting your passes. The theaters used can switch up as well! Around here there are two main places they use, but sometimes it’ll be a random theater that I don’t normally frequent. Normally you can request two passes.
When it comes to attending the screening, unless you’ve been told you have guaranteed seats, get there early! Sometimes these things are over “sold.” I’ve seen people not make it into a screening before because of the amount of people that showed up. I normally try and get there 1-1.5 hours early, depending on the movie. Don’t be surprised if they either take your phone, or ask you to leave it in your car. Remember, you’re seeing a movie early! Sometimes it’s a week, sometimes it’s even earlier. When I saw “Avengers,” I think it was a month before the movie was out. They don’t want people trying to sneak footage and what not. And if you try, you will be busted and kicked out. Security is legit at these things. Then you have some screenings that let you keep your phone, just ask you turn it off like you normally would.
That’s it! It’s not anything hard or tricky. If you have any questions drop them in the comments!
