On Thursday I went right from work to the movies in order to catch “Thor: The Dark World” on opening night. No, I didn’t do Midnight. I’m too old for that. Instead I went with the 8PM option! Can I just say how much I love the fact they’ve started this whole “before Midnight” viewing thing? The last time I went at Midnight I almost fell asleep between the fact I was tired, it was raining, and the theater was freezing. It was a perfect storm for a $11 nap.
Anywho, I settled in hoping for a good movie and instead I got a great one. I have no problem letting people know I wasn’t a huge fan of the first Thor film. It wasn’t my favorite from Phase One and I pretty much saw it because of reasons. I do cut it some slack though seeing how it was more of a character intro movie then anything. I think Thor can be a tricky character with the whole Asgard thing. But this time around they really nailed it. Was it a bit predictable? Well, yes. I mean, aren’t most movies? You have a bad guy, then there’s a good guy. You throw in a few battles, maybe a little love interest. Since it’s Marvel, you add a few laughs along the way and before you know it the good guy has won. That’s just how it works. I think my favorite part was seeing more of Asgard. The sets were beautiful and stunning and it really felt like a place this time around. I think they finally nailed the look of Thor as well. I wasn’t fond of his hair and beard in the first movie, “Avengers” was better but this time around they managed to get it right. Plus he was shirtless. Did I mention that before? Loki was well, Loki. I’ll say this was my favorite version of the character. We got to see more of his magic skills which was fun to see. Plus he was as sassy and sarcastic as ever. Jane got to do her science, Frigga was bad ass like always, and Odin was King of Grumpy Pants. I wish we had more Sif and The Warriors Three but I’ll take what I can get.
I honestly love the movie. I’ve seen it again already and plan on taking my parents this weekend. I’m *thisclose* to saying I liked it more than “Iron Man 3” but for some reason I can’t bring myself to do it. Granted, I’m pretty sure “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will become my new favorite once April rolls around. That will be the movie that breaks my “Avengers” record.
Have you seen the movie? What did you think?
