June 4, 2017 Leave a Comment

I saw “Wonder Woman” over the weekend and man, it was fantastic! Then imagine my surprise when Hot Toys announced the Wonder Woman (Training Armor Version) figure! I know people were really curious to see if Hot Toys planned on putting out any more versions of the character since her look in her own movie is very similar to “Batman vs. Superman.” I’m so happy to see they did decide to give us another figure! First Order Stormtrooper (Jakku Exclusive) Hot Toys Figure Review

May 15, 2017 8 Comments

When Sideshow Collectibles reached out and asked if I wanted to review a Star Wars figure I jumped at the chance. If you know me, you know my collection is mostly filled with Marvel. I do like to be able to help friends though when it comes to suggestions or questions about other franchisees. You can find various posts here about Sideshow and what they offer, plus posts about new and upcoming figures. This is my first official review though and I’m pretty excited. The figure they sent is the First Order Stormtrooper (Jakku Exclusive) Hot Toys Figure! Here’s a little bit more info about the figure:

The long wait is almost over. The highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens will finally begin hitting theaters around the globe in 2 weeks. With the story set 30 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi in this new film, fans will see brand new characters and see how the story unfolds on the desert planet Jakku!

To celebrate the release of this epic installment of the Star Wars saga, Sideshow Collectibles and Hot Toys are pleased to officially present today, the Movie Promo Edition sixth scale First Order Stormtrooper (Jakku Exclusive) collectible figure!

The highly-accurate collectible figure is specially crafted based on the image of the First Order Stormtrooper on the desert planet Jakku in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It features the sleekly designed Stormtrooper armor and helmet, a heavy artillery vest, a detachable survival backpack, highly detailed blaster rifle with extended stock, a blaster pistol, and a specially designed Jakku desert-themed figure stand!

As always, the first thing you notice is the amazing box art. Hot Toys really does focus on the entire package. I wish I had the space to actually display the boxes along with the figures. Maybe one day! The Stormtrooper is well packaged, with tons of plastic bags and sheets to protect him. He comes with a few accessories including hands, weapons, backpack, and binoculars. I will say it’s weird for me that there’s no actor likeness head sculpt! I mean, I know why but when you’re someone who has a collection of basically 1/6th scale actors on a shelf, it just becomes standard. The armor is perfect though and everything is very well sculpted and put together. The artists behind it are Lok Ho who did the figure paint and JC.Hong who did the art direction. Like with most weapons that come with Hot Toys, they do have some moveable parts. The figure is of course poseable as well with over 30 points of articulation. I will say he’s a little stiff out of the box but that can be an issue with figures in general. Just remember not to force your figures into a pose if they start to resist. A great pose isn’t worth it if you end up breaking something. I noticed more of an issue with the right arm, the left arm didn’t seem as stiff. The backpack and smaller gun attach via magnets which is pretty nice. Just keep that in mind when moving figures around! You don’t want to lose a gun because it popped off when you were cleaning your display. Honestly, my favorite part is the tiny detail that you might miss. Since this guy was on the beach, you’ll notice the boots are painted a bit to look like they have sand stuck to them! I know it’s a small thing but it’s such a nice touch! I’m just a sucker for things like that. The stand of course looks like the beach and features little footprints to help keep your Stormtrooper standing. All in all, it’s a really solid figure. The armor is well done, it has a nice shine to it but not too much. If you’re a fan of Star Wars, I think you’ll be happy with this on your shelf.

Bring Home Your Own Chris Pratt With A Star-Lord Hot Toys

April 14, 2017 Leave a Comment

Hot Toys has done it again! I swear, just when I think I’m done collecting something is released that I just have to have. I missed out on Star-Lord the first time around and I told myself that wouldn’t happen again. Since GOTG Volume 2 is just around the corner, get ready for a ton of these figures to be released! This time, there are two versions! There’s a standard and a deluxe. Here are two photos to show you the differences:

Obviously the Deluxe comes with more extras, but both of them come with Baby Groot. I mean, that’s the important thing right? The Standard Version is $229.99 and the Deluxe Star-Lord is $251.99. I already placed my order and thanks to have a ton of Reward Points and a gift card, I snagged him for $25! What a fucking steal! I’m glad I held out and didn’t order anything before this guy was released. Now here are some more photos!
