I always have great ideas for crafts but never actually go through with them. This time around I did! I mentioned in my last post that I had stopped by Michaels earlier in the week and saw a ton of Halloween items I wanted. Today I went back and bought what I needed to make a cute and simple little Halloween decoration.
1. Vase/Glass Jar (I already had one at home)
2. Mixed Halloween Beads: $2.49 (Sale)
3. LED Battery Operated Lights: $5.99 (But I had a 50% off coupon)
4. Various Halloween Decorative Glitter Sticks: $5.36
Everything I bought was on sale, most of it was 40% off! The only thing that wasn’t was the lights but as I mentioned above, I had a coupon! Michaels is really good with coupons. They even have an app that you can download.
What I did was fill the vase with a few beads, the layered in the lights and repeated the process. I went with purple lights to add a little pizzazz! They had white and orange lights as well. Since my container isn’t huge I was able to use just one string of lights. I recommend only using one because of the battery pack. It’s easy to hide one behind the vase but two would be a little difficult. Of course you don’t need to add any lights at all!
Once I had the beads and lights done, I went ahead and placed the decorative sticks. I honestly have no idea what to call them. Accessories? You know what I mean when you see them. I only bought four but I plan on going back and getting more. Since I didn’t have my vase with me it was hard to judge just how many I needed. You’ll see below it looks a little scarce. I trimmed the length on a few of them as well since my vase isn’t tall but is a short square. If you have something taller like a jar you probably won’t need to do this. I tried to pick different items to give different textures and to add a little color. Color is something you need to pay attention too because most decorations for Halloween are black. While I love black, you do need a little “pop” of color to make your little decoration stand out! Once you have your items placed, that’s it! You’re done!
As you can see, I need to add maybe two more items to help balance it out. I remember seeing something with a ghost and I might grab another of the swirly sticks in a different color. I like the purple…thing…too because it adds a different texture to it! Oh? What’s that? What about the lights?
Tada! Pretty awesome right? I think it would look just as nice with white lights as well. It’s all about what you want! I was able to create this for just $11! Granted, I already had the container which saved some money but I saw Mason jars for just $1.99. Plus I think we all have vases and glass containers sitting around our house just waiting to be used.
Do you have any Halloween crafts or DIY projects planned?
