A Different Type Of Workout: Xpose Fitness

August 30, 2017 9 Comments

It’s hard to get into a workout routine, especially depending on your work schedule. While my office building offers a gym, there aren’t any classes. And the gyms that do, most of the classes start at time where it’s just not possible with my schedule. It takes me about an our to get home from work (that’s if weather is perfect), and a lot of classes start around 5:30-6:30. I can’t always make those times, which kinda sucks. Plus let’s face it, gyms are expensive. Do I want to pay $80-$90 a month? Not if I can help it! That’s why I love Xpose Fitness. What is it? It’s a studio that offers classes centered around exotic dancing. They offer different levels of pole classes, floor/chair, plus yoga and stretch related classes! Now, Xpose Fitness is a local chain, but you can find similar studios and classes all over the country. The best part though is the fact there’s no contract. You can just drop in whenever you want, or sign up for a class card where you save a little bit. I normally go the class card route and get 12 classes at a time. They have the best schedule too. They offer a number of classes later in the evening and on the weekends! At the moment, I’ve been sticking to taking the Saturday morning Floor/Chair class. I want to add a weekday class as well, but just need to find one that works best with my schedule.

The main reason I really enjoy the classes is the fact it’s fun! It doesn’t feel like a workout, but don’t be fooled. You will be feeling it. There have been times where my ass is still store two days later. Each teacher is different too, which means one class might focus on arms, another on legs, while the next class might be abs. Plus everyone is so nice, from the teachers to the other ladies who are working out with you. And yes, 99% of the classes are ladies only. I think they offer two co-ed classes, one being yoga related. Don’t let the “exotic dance” aspect scare you either. No one is actually stripping, everyone is different shapes and sizes. It’s a really relaxed and wonderful atmosphere. How do the classes work? Well we start with a warm up, then we’re taught different “moves” which are actually exercises. Then at the end of the class we put everything together into a little routine, followed up by a cool down. It’s about 50 minutes. We use a chair and do some moves on the floor as well. It’s why I need to upgrade my yoga mat! I need some more padding for these knees. I do wear stripper heels during class because believe it or not, it makes it easier. I have short legs (shocker), so anytime we do something over the chair (like squats), my legs would hit the sides and it just wasn’t working. The extra height provided by the heels does make a huge different. You don’t need them though! Plenty of people take the classes just in socks. And some of the classes require sneakers.

If you’re looking for a similar studio in your area, I suggest checking Groupon or Living Social first! I know Xpose offers deals on there and it’s a nice way to see what’s in your area. You can always search online for “Exotic Dance Workouts” or a similar phrase. Ask your friends too! Some people might not want to put it out there for whatever reason, but just ask if they know of any different or fun gym classes in the area. It really is a great time and I recommend it to everyone. Some might even offer free intro classes, I know Xpose does. If you have any questions, drop them in the comments and I’ll try to answer them!

And I Bought Yet Another Fitbit

August 25, 2017 4 Comments

It’s getting hilarious at this point. I’ve now had three different Fitbits. They don’t break or anything. I just feel the need to upgrade. Or I buy one and then the next day something new comes out. This time around I upgraded my Alta to an Alta HR. I’ve wanted something with a heart rate monitor but I have small wrists. I don’t want some giant watch looking thing sitting on my arm all day. Other than that, it’s pretty much the same as the standard Alta. It can track exercise, your sleep, and everything else that the other one did. The sleep tracking is more in depth thanks to the HRM. And look, as someone who uses these things I still take everything with a grain of salt. I’m sure it counts steps I don’t take, and I’m sure the HRM is probably a bit off, but that’s fine. It’s giving me something to work with and improve on which is all I’m looking for at this point. I do like that the band on this one is more like a watchband and not where you just press the knob into a slot. It feels much more secure than the normal Alta. I’m horrible at describing this but you know what I mean.

I’ve had this new gadget for about a week now and I really enjoy it. Like I said, it’s not much different than the last one but it’s neat to see my “cardio zone” and the type of sleep I’m getting. I do find myself trying to walk around the office more. Every hour (you can change your settings) from 9am-4pm it will remind me to get at least 250 steps every hour. It’ll vibrate letting me know how many I need to hit that 250. I mean, if it’s getting me off my ass it’s working right? Of course the hard part for me is sticking with it. All it takes it for me to take it off to charge or to take a shower, and every time the chance of me putting it back on drops. But I’m really hoping to make this one stick. I’m looking forward to wearing it during my trip to London. I wore it during softball this past week as well and it was pretty cool to see the stats during that. I have my Xpose class tomorrow and I can’t wait to see how it tracks the workout. I might do a follow up post in a few months once I’ve had it a bit longer.

If you’re in the market for one, Target has them on sale online and in store. I think it’s about $20-$30 off which isn’t much but they don’t go on sale very often. If you’re not near a Target (I cry for you), it looks like Amazon has them on sale as well. I’m not sure what the shipping with Target it, so you might save a few bucks going the Amazon route.

Do you have a fitness tracker? Are you like me and get on it, then forget about it weeks later? Let me know in the comments and have a great weekend!

I Signed Up For A 5K

August 13, 2017 13 Comments

I’ve always wanted to do one. I even signed up for one a few years ago but then something came up and I didn’t take part. Honestly, I was probably just lazy and nothing actually “came up.” When I saw that The Color Run was coming to town I knew I had to do it. The medal is a unicorn you guys. A UNICORN. How could I pass that up? The event is in September, I think the weekend after I get back from London. That was great planning on my part. If there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s planning things back to back when I shouldn’t.

Now, I’m not a runner at all. I think I could be though, and that’s what matters. My issue is with pacing myself. That and the fact that I don’t want to walk then run, then walk and the other “Couch to 5K” programs that are out there. When I do something, I want to just do it. I just want to lace up my shoes and run! But that’s not smart or safe. I’ve been doing my best to get out there either after work or on the weekends. In fact, last Saturday I finally managed to finish 3.3 miles! I normally do about 2 miles only because of the route I run and not having the time to go further off course. I had a split time of about 15 minutes and a total time of 54 minutes. I know I can improve on that though and I plan on it! Some of that time was stopping to pet dogs but I mean, dogs. Hopefully I can get back out there this weekend again depending on the weather and start improving on that time. Here are a few photos from my run! I run along the water front which offers some great views, and of course tons of doggos.
