A few weeks ago I picked up and finished Horrorstor: A Novel. And when I say finished, I finished it in a few hours! I’ve seen the book mentioned on a few different blogs and wanted something different to read. If you aren’t familiar here’s the rundown:
Something strange is happening at the Orsk furniture superstore in Cleveland, Ohio. Every morning, employees arrive to find broken Kjerring bookshelves, shattered Glans water goblets, and smashed Liripip wardrobes. Sales are down, security cameras reveal nothing, and store managers are panicking.
To unravel the mystery, three employees volunteer to work a nine-hour dusk-till-dawn shift. In the dead of the night, they’ll patrol the empty showroom floor, investigate strange sights and sounds, and encounter horrors that defy the imagination.
Now, I don’t know if it’s because I was reading this book at night and in a strange house (I was pup sitting) but I was freaked out. It didn’t help that the dog kept staring at some random spot in the hallway either. I enjoyed the fact that the story was something different and it flowed pretty easy. It wasn’t hard to follow what was going on and the mix of characters helped keep things interesting as well. Plus I love the fact it took place in an Ikea knockoff. I’ve gotten lost in one of those stores a few times myself. I couldn’t imagine being in there overnight with some weird shit going on!
My only issue? THE ENDING! It just…ends! With so many questions! I couldn’t believe it! I was like, are you kidding me?! It’s hard to discuss it without spoiling anything but if you’ve read the book you understand my rage. I mean, it was the cliffhanger of all cliffhangers. I need to know what happens next!
If you’re looking for something a little spooky to read, and maybe something that’s quick and easy to finish, I recommend checking this out! Plus I think it’s supposed to become a TV show? Because everything becomes a TV show.
Have you read this book? What did you think?
