Did you hear that? It was a super heavy sigh that I just let out because HeroesCon is over and I’m back at work. I knew the show was a great convention just based on the opinions of friends and seeing what creators have to say about it. I was still surprised at just how much I loved it though! Unlike a lot of comic conventions, Heroes is 100% comics. It really reminded me of Baltimore Comic-Con. They offered a nice range of panels, covering everything from cosplay to comic book covers. You didn’t have to fight for a spot in line or camp out for hours to get into a room. I only attended two panels and they were fantastic. The first panel was all about Spider-Gwen and it was really nice to hear more about how the character/story came to be.
The second panel was the Milkfed Criminal Masterminds panel that featured Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick plus their lovely friends like Chip Zdarsky, Christian Ward, and others. The panel actually started off with KSD reading the names of those lost in Charleston, followed by a moment of silence. It was really touching and just showed what kind of person she is. Of course by the time the panel was over we had played a round of “Kanye, Ultron, or Tallulah,” learned that Kelly Sue will be leaving Captain Marvel, and Deidre went 4/4 in Fraction/Zdarsky dick trivia. It was really a great panel and I hope they do more in the future at different conventions. I think they mentioned having one at DragonCon, keep an eye out for that!
The rest of the time was spent wandering around the amazing convention floor and chatting with friends like Travis, Court, and Andrea, and dropping off sketchbooks. Since I wasn’t 100% sure what to expect with this convention, I didn’t take too much money and only scored one sketch. But it’s amazing.
I told you it was amazing! It’s it adorable?! This was done by our amazing friend Michael of Locoduck Studios. He does a ton of conventions which means if you see him at yours, be sure to check out his table! He’s a really great person along with his wife Toni.
A lot of time was spent in lines for Fraction and Zdarsky because of course, plus Saturday night was the BrimpUp which was amazing. But I don’t want this post to get too long which means another post will be coming your way in a few days! Plus I’ll be sharing some of my Scarlet Witch photos! It’s safe to say though that I’ll be returning to this convention next year! And if you’ve been on the fence for some reason about attending, just do it!
