There was a time in my younger days where I would travel to Florida to watch Nsync during their Challenge For The Children events. It was a weekend long event that raised money for kids and featured a basketball game. It was always a great time, getting to see friends I didn’t see all the time. Plus it was a way of making new friends. It wasn’t hard to spot fellow Nsync fans. That’s why when we saw a car in the parking lot of the hotel that was decorated for CFTC, we got really excited! Hey, why not leave a note under their door! Maybe they’ll want to hang out!
That’s where we made our mistake. We thought, for some reason, that the numbers on the parking tag hanging from their rear view mirror was the hotel room number. Wrong. It was the date they were checking out. Instead of inviting girls who were probably around our age to hangout, we invited some random French dudes. How did we know they were French? Because we could hear them as they knocked on our door and we pretended no one was there. Because of course if you want to hang out with someone, you give them your room number!
I think we had to avoid them for a day or two. They eventually stopped trying to track us down but you should have seen our faces when we realized our huge mistake. This was the same hotel that when we accidentally took the elevator to the basement, it was like the Gates of Hell opened up. It was hot, humid, and super creepy.
I have a shitload of stories from those trips. Maybe I’ll start posting about them more. Like the time I was almost kidnapped. Or the time that the Port Authority thought we had kidnapped someone. Oh and I can’t forget the time where my group got into a fight over a Justin Timberlake game used towel.
